Kulturtreppe: Homemade Iscream (BS) & Jasmin Albash (BS)

Two innovative Basel pop duos with sounds ranging from edgy trash pop to profoundly emotional electro-pop live at the MUKS-Hof

Two innovative Basel pop duos with sounds ranging from edgy trash pop to profoundly emotional electro-pop live at the MUKS-Hof

Self-built drum machines, unusual sounds and poetically haunting lyrics meet driving grooves and profoundly emotional electro-pop: you can dream, marvel and dance wildly when the two Basel duo formations “Homemade Iscream” and “Jasmin Albash” get going in the MUKS courtyard.

The evening will be opened by Homemade Iscream - Donath Weyeneth and Maria Demandt, who met in the theater when they were supposed to play a band on stage. What began as a production became reality and the two have since found their very own sound with poetic, poignant, sometimes ironic lyrics about modern society, synths and self-built drum machines. They themselves describe it as “trashy pop songs, quirky and crispy, cheeky and direct.”. You can hear what this sounds like on their second album “Like an Octopus”, released in May, or - even better - experience it live at the MUKS-Hof. We're sure that the two of them (who themselves play a variety of instruments with eight arms) will set the cultural scene in motion with their colorful and guaranteed non-conformist DIY sound.

Jasmin Albash lives musical expression in every fiber of her being. When the singer and producer rolls out her electro-pop soundscape in a duo with drummer Benjamin Brodbeck at the MUKS-Hof, it is a tribute to the power of music and a self-confident manifesto. While Jasmin Albash dealt with her origins on her debut “Gold” (2000) and put down new roots in Palestine, her new album is a confrontation with her reality in the here and now. Her album “Goddess” (2024) mixes electronic beats and soulful vocals with Middle Eastern sounds; “Let My Heart Speak” and the title track “Goddess” are both profound and danceable anthems for self-determination and female strength. Whether as a solo artist, collaborator or mentor in projects such as the “Sijada Sessions” where she invites other female artists to a creative exchange or the joint project “Kallemi”: Jasmin Albash puts her love, her (life) experience and developments into her music, she matures and grows with each work and leaves behind musically honest and courageous statements that resonate.

The Markthalle Basel and Pötit Cräperie will cater for your physical well-being with drinks and savoury and sweet snacks.
