The "Soirée d'été" traditionally kicks off the Kulturtreppe with Broadway and jazz classics and this year presents great voices from the Basel rap, neo-soul, rock and reggae scene, who take the audience on a musical journey through time together with the Soirée house band.
The fact that Alexia Thomas finds the time to be there is actually a small miracle. The singer, rapper and producer is active with two projects: as "dudette", she produces cheeky, German-language rap with tech beats and samples and campaigns for more visibility for FLINTA* people in the rap scene. Under her own name, she combines beautiful dreampop, electronic elements, indie and R&B to create a spherical, cross-genre sound. She is currently enchanting Swiss club and festival stages with her debut album "Based on a Dream" and we are delighted to be able to experience this wonderful artist on the jazz stage.
With a timbre that is as deep and warm as it is fresh and translucent, Anouch-ka Gwen has also been giving us goosebumps for several years now. The singer-songwriter and bassist with Congolese roots combines neo-soul with psychedelic pop sounds in her music. After two albums, Anouchka has taken a creative break and we are delighted that she is interrupting this for the Soirée d'été.
Philipp Diaz has earned a reputation as a charismatic frontman in recent years as the singer/guitarist of the band Saitün. With his solo project DÍAZ, he now celebrates his very own sad grunge pop. His love of 90s grunge, punk and Y2K college rock shines through, and his musical authenticity is as impressive as it is touching. We are delighted to be able to experience this versatile artist at our tête-à-tête with jazz.
The fourth in the round is Yves Loekito. As the singer of the dialect reggae band Schwell-heim, he has been making audiences dance for almost 20 years, solo he combines soul, pop and Afrobeats with personal lyrics and as a DJ he brings the finest dancehall and reggae to the clubs of Switzerland with Claasilisque Sound
Alexia, Anouchka, Philipp and Yves will be accompanied on their musical journey by the Soirée house band with Stefania Chiara (voc), Pio Schürmann (piano), Marco Nenniger (bass), George Ricci (sax, clarinet) and Florian Haas Schneider (drums).
Markthalle Basel and the Libanicious food stand will provide drinks and savory snacks
